If you’re considering cosmetic plastic surgery, you may not have considered how you might prepare for the recovery process. While it varies depending on the surgery, there are a few easy ways you can get your home ready for your post-surgery period. Aside from picking the right time for your surgery, here are four things you can do to accommodate your house to your needs while recovering:

- Clean the entire home thoroughly and organize it. You probably won’t be able to clean during recovery, so it’s important to do this before your surgery. It’s nice to get the home sparkling clean for your mental state, but it will also prevent potential infections while you’re in a high-risk condition. While you’re cleaning, get all the essential items you might need and place them close to where you’ll be staying (probably a bed). You’ll be partially or fully incapacitated while in recovery, so having these items nearby will streamline the process.

- Rearrange your home to fit your needs. Depending on what type of surgery you’re getting, moving around might be difficult while you’re recovering. Consider moving a bed downstairs so that you won’t risk tripping and injuring yourself. Also, if you’ll need special walking or bathroom equipment, take the necessary steps ahead of time.

- Stock up on necessary supplies. Talk to your surgeon about what pain or other medications you’ll need before your surgery. This way, you can put everything you need nearby and have it on hand during recovery. Also, make a list of healthy and easy-to-prepare food and stock up. Whether you’re shopping yourself or having someone help you, a list will make it easier to quickly find what you need.
- Keep your recovery area pet-free. Your furry little friends can be great emotional support when recovering from surgery, but they can put you at risk for infection. Having major surgery can cause your immune system to weaken and put you at high risk for infection or illness. Animals carry bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi that can be transmitted through a scratch or bite, urine or feces, but also dander and salvia. If recovering in an area that is used by your pet, like a couch, recliner, or bed, make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize that area before your surgery and keep your pet away from that area while you heal. If you do pet your animal friend, make sure to clean and sanitize your hands right after.
As always, your specific needs during recovery will vary depending on your surgery and health. Don’t hesitate to reach out via phone or email with any questions. We wish you a fast and successful recovery!
