Browlift: What is it?
*Each patient is unique and individual results may vary.
Understanding Brow Lift
Also known as a forehead lift in Omaha, a brow lift smoothes out the wrinkles that develop across the forehead and bridge of the nose and elevates a low or sagging brow. In your initial consultation, your doctor will take the time to understand your goals, perform a full examination and show you realistic surgical improvements using our advanced computer imaging system.
At Aesthetic Surgical Images your safety and comfort is our highest priority. Our surgeons are board-certified, our facility is fully accredited, and our M.D. anesthesiologists have received the highest training available. From your initial consultation to your post-surgical check up, we provide each and every patient with much more than a surgery; our goal is to provide a truly rewarding experience.
Your Brow Lift Procedure
Over the last several years, major improvements have been made in brow lift surgery. Previously it required a large incision across the front of the scalp from ear to ear. Today, our plastic surgeons in Omaha perform brow lifts endoscopically, a technique that involves very small incisions behind the hairline or along the natural contours of the face. Using a tiny camera and special instruments, your surgeon will lift the forehead and brows and weaken the muscles responsible for wrinkles and frown lines.
An endoscopic brow lift is particularly beneficial for younger patients who do not need removal of excess skin. Oftentimes, patients with more advanced signs of aging choose to combine their brow lift with a facelift or blepharoplasty to tighten or remove sagging skin. Enjoying Your Results
An endoscopic brow lift has several advantages over a traditional brow lift including subtle elevation, which means more natural-looking results. And, because an endoscopic brow is less invasive, patients enjoy less swelling and faster healing. Most individuals return to non-strenuous work within a week and can resume their exercise routine after three weeks.
Your final results will appear within 2-3 months after surgery and should last for several years. Although a brow lift cannot stop the natural aging process, it can erase years from your appearance and restore a more youthful, energized look. “I finally made the decision to have a brow lift after drooping and heaviness in the brow area continued to worsen over time, leaving me to feel I at times looked tired & cranky when I was not. I’ve known Dr. Bruneteau for many years and without an ounce of hesitation, put 100% confidence in him to perform this surgery for me, knowing it would turn out great. He listens, is genuinely caring, conscientious and understanding to a patient’s questions and concerns from the initial consultation through the entire recovery process. I highly recommend him to anyone considering cosmetic surgery – you will be in very good hands. The well experienced surgical staff at Surgical Images was also very warm, caring and professional, making the surgery experience a smooth and positive one for me. I am very happy with the result! :)”5 Stars
Brow Lift FAQs
A properly performed brow lift should not result in a surprised look. It should result in an overall natural and more alert appearance.
A brow lift should last several years. It will depend on the patient and their skin characteristics.
During the course of a brow lift, it is possible to disrupt the muscles that cause the wrinkles between the eyes. Unfortunately, this function cannot be completely erased. By weakening it, however, the deep wrinkles are often improved, but probably never gone.
A brow lift will improve the wrinkles in the forehead. In many cases, however, it may not completely erase them, but it should significantly improve their appearance.
There are several different ways to perform a brow lift. The oldest and most established method is to make an incision from one ear across the top of the head to the other. The brow is then disconnected from the underlying bone. The muscles between the eyes are then weakened. The brow is then pulled back and a strip of scalp is removed. Once the two edges are brought back together, the brow has been lifted.
An endoscopic brow lift is done with much smaller incisions. Typically, there are three to five small incisions, each approximately three-quarters of an inch long. These are all in the hair-bearing scalp. Through these small incisions, an endoscope is placed and the disconnection of the scalp from the bone is accomplished while viewing the structures on a video monitor receiving the picture from the endoscope. The nerves that need to be preserved are well visualized during this procedure and greater precision in avoiding them and disrupting the muscles between the eyes can be accomplished. The small incisions cancel out the need for long incisions across the top of the scalp and the removal of the strip of scalp. Sometimes, the removal of the strip will leave a small area of baldness. Removal of the strip of scalp normally disrupts the sensory nerves that begin at the brow level and travel up the head and back across the scalp. Usually a portion of the scalp behind the incision is numb. The endoscopic forehead lift does not require this incision, therefore numbness is less likely.
Normally, patients do not complain of significant discomfort after the brow lift. Occasionally, they describe symptoms of a headache, which are normally short-lived. Any discomfort is normally well handled by the postoperative pain management prescribed by your surgeon.
In preparation for the surgical procedure, it is important to follow the preoperative instructions given to you by your surgeon. Your preparation will vary slightly depending on the procedure to be performed.
There’s no question that hair loss can occur following brow lift procedures. This hair loss is highly dependent upon the type of procedure performed. It’s much more likely to occur when open approaches are utilized and can occur for a variety of reasons. These may include tension on the wound closure, thinning of skin flaps and the use of cautery.
In most cases, this hair loss is transient, but in some cases it may be permanent. When this occurs a variety of treatment options exist. These include scar revision, hair transplantation and Rogaine.
It’s important to individualize the treatment of brow descent based on the patients’ needs and aesthetic goals. Although the results of open brow lifts probably last longer than the results of endoscopic brow lift, the longevity of endoscopic browlift is never the less still quite good. In most cases, endoscopic browlift still probably represents the best option.
Consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon with browlift experience would be an appropriate step. This surgeon should be able to help you formulate an appropriate treatment plan.
