The benefits of this procedure:
- Enhances Body Contour
- Redistributes fat to reshape the buttock area
- Balances Body Proportions
The Brazilian Butt Lift can be an effective surgical option for men and women who desire more fullness and shaping in the buttock region. This procedure can restore a buttock that has lost volume. By redistributing the fat it is possible to enhance the normal shape of the buttocks.

Understanding Brazillian Butt Lift
The Brazilian Butt Lift or BBL is a procedure that harvests excess fat deposits from areas where fat is no longer wanted, purified, and processed, then reinjected into a new area to create better shaping of the gluteal region. This type of contouring cannot be accomplished by diet and exercise.
Your BBL Consultation
At Aesthetic Surgical Images, when you visit for an initial consultation with one of our experienced Omaha cosmetic surgeons, they will ask about your medical history as well as discuss your body type and aesthetic goals. During this time, the surgeon will assess your physical attributes and help you decide if BBL surgery is the best choice to meet your desired outcome. Additionally, the plastic surgeon will explain the expected results and potential risks associated with the procedure.

Candidates for Brazillian Butt Lift Surgery
Ideal BBL candidates are those who have reached a stable weight, maintain good health, and have realistic expectations for the results of their surgery. Those wishing to improve their buttock contour, due to age-related or genetic loss of volume in that area, may be good candidates for this surgical procedure.
Since the cosmetic procedure involves redistributing fat to reshape the buttock area, patients need to maintain a healthy weight before and after surgery. Weight loss or weight fluctuations can affect the results of the procedure, so it is important to be mindful of any changes in body composition.
Preparation for a BBL procedure
Before undergoing a BBL procedure, patients should inform their doctor about any medications or supplements they may be taking. Additionally, it is important to follow specific instructions from your surgeon such as quitting smoking and avoiding certain medications like blood thinners. Once these have been discussed, the plastic surgeon will provide additional instructions on how to prepare.
Your Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure
The Brazilian Butt Lift procedure is conducted on an outpatient basis while the patient is under general anesthesia.
Initially, the areas with the unwanted fat undergo a liposuction procedure. This fat is then processed and purified before it is reinjected into the intended areas. This is called fat grafting. Successful fat grafting depends on whether or not there is sufficient fat to achieve the preoperative goals. If a patient does not have enough fat, they may be recommended to gain 10-20 pounds before the gluteal augmentation.
The Gluteal Fat Grafting
Gluteal fat grafting begins with harvesting the fat stores for transfer by liposuction. Not all of the tissue harvested in liposuction is suitable for the fat transfer procedure. The term aspirate refers to all of the contents in the canister used to collect the products of liposuction. This includes not only the fat but some blood, fibrous components, and fluid used to initially infiltrate the fat before liposuction is begun.
After the liposuction is completed the aspirate undergoes treatment to separate the good injectable fat from the rest of the aspirate.
After this treatment, the remaining injectable fat constitutes approximately 50-60% of the total amount suctioned. The aspirate is measured in cc’s. Many soft drinks come in 1 Liter bottles. 1 Liter equals 1000cc.
Small-framed individuals will require between 300-550cc of injectable fat. Medium-framed individuals may require between 700- 950cc. Large framed individuals may require anywhere from 750cc up to 1200cc. Very large framed patients may require between 900-1400cc. These numbers are guidelines and each one of these patients may be better served with more or less than the above guidelines.
Many patients choose to combine Brazilian Butt Lift surgery with other body contouring procedures such as a tummy tuck or breast augmentation. By combining these procedures patients can attain the harmony and proportion they desire and create a more balanced aesthetic appearance.

BBL Recovery
Immediately after the surgery, BBL patients are not allowed to lie on their backs until the healing process is completed. Normally they are then turned over on their stomach. During the trip home after the procedure or when on the way to a postoperative visit patients are recommended to either lay on their stomach or their side.
After the patient goes home they are instructed to keep pressure off of the buttock area for at least 8 weeks. No sitting is permitted for 10 days postoperatively. The exception to this is to utilize the toilet. After 10 days the patient is allowed to sit in a modified position that will keep excess pressure from the buttock area. This can be accomplished with the use of a pillow placed beneath the hamstring muscles not touching the buttock.
Patients are recommended to wear the prescribed compression garment for up to 4-6 weeks postoperatively. Patients normally return to normal activities by 8 weeks. It is important to realize that the final result probably not be realized for up to 3-4 months.
Enjoying Your Butt Lift Results
You’ll see a noticeable difference in the shape of your body within 1 to 2 weeks after the cosmetic surgery procedure. Once fat cells are removed from unwanted areas, they should not return. Likewise, the fat that is used to augment the buttock will remain and create fullness and projection. It’s important to note that maintaining a healthy weight and exercising is the best way to ensure your results are long-lasting.
“My comment has nothing to do with the surgeon, but more along the lines of what two procedures not to do at the same time. I had liposuction done on my stomach as well as a Brazilian Butt lift. It was the most uncomfortable 3 weeks because I had to sleep on my stomach and could not sleep on my sides or on my back the entire time. Oh and you can’t sit on your butt for 3 weeks. I have to say it was an interesting experience. Overall my stomach looks great and my butt is taking its form which can take up to a year. The only reason I am not highly satisfied I should have had more fat removed from my problem areas and placed in my butt. It’s a nice shape now, but it could be a lot more rounder/fuller.”
