Understanding Facial Fillers
Collagen keeps skin looking youthful and smooth. As we age, the natural production of collagen we’re all born with begins to decrease, resulting in fine lines and wrinkles and age-related volume loss. In your consultation, you and your surgeon will discuss the most effective way to restore a more youthful appearance, whether through common filler injections (such as hyaluronic acid fillers) or transferring fat from one part of your body to another.
Juvéderm is a smooth gel made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the skin. It adds volume to the tissue underneath the skin, reducing furrows and facial wrinkles, and is particularly effective at treating the nasolabial folds (the line that runs from the nose to the corners of the mouth), fine lines around the lips, and some wrinkles at the corners of the mouth. Results last up to nine months.
Also uses hyaluronic acid to restore the skin’s fullness and elasticity. This filler achieves excellent results in treating fine lines around the upper and lower lip and deeper wrinkles in the nasolabial folds. We can also inject Restylane into the lips, resulting in a fuller, more youthful look. Results last about six months.
Involves taking fat from one area of the body and transferring it to another area. Typically, fat is removed from the abdomen using a small liposuction cannula. After the fat is separated from the fluid, your physician will inject it into the desired area. Fat transfer is also an effective way to enhance your lips. Results may last for years.
In your initial consultation, your physician will thoroughly explain all of your filler treatment options to help you choose the procedure that best meets your aesthetic goals.
Your Injectable Filler Procedure
During your aesthetic treatment, a very fine needle is used to inject the filler into the skin. Your doctor will discuss whether or not you would like an anesthetic. Recovery from injectables is very short, with virtually no downtime. With fat transfer, recovery is longer as swelling from the area where the fat was harvested subsides.
Patients who have more advanced wrinkling may want to consider additional procedures such as a facelift or brow lift to achieve a tighter, more uplifted appearance. Fillers also work well in conjunction with other wrinkle treatments, including BOTOX® Cosmetic, to delay invasive operations.
