Premier plastic surgeon of the Midwest, Omaha-based Dr. John Edney of Aesthetic Surgical Images is passionate about proper skin care and is dedicated to improving the health and beauty of the body’s largest organ. Dr. Edney offers an array of skin care services, which allows him to customize a treatment plan for each individual patient and bring out the best in a range of different skin types.
Types of Skin Care at Aesthetic Surgical Images
Skin care treatments are versatile and can be home- or office-based. Some skin care treatments are performed alone while others may be combined with facial plastic surgery to dramatically enhance the look of the skin.
To best serve each patient with a unique skin care regimen, Dr. Edney offers a full menu of services and procedures at his Omaha-based practice, Aesthetic Surgical Images. Patients can elect to receive:
- Medical-grade skin care
- Prescription LATISSE® for eyelash growth
- Chemical peels
These cosmetic treatments are designed to correct different types of skin issues, from “problem” skin in teenagers and young adults to mature skin exhibiting lines and wrinkles.
In addition to focusing on facial rejuvenation, different treatments can also address various skin concerns of the body. A chemical peel solution may also be applied to the chest and décolleté or hands, and dermabrasion can also be performed on areas that age more rapidly.
Sclerotherapy, an injectable solution that reduces the appearance of unwanted spider and varicose veins is typically performed on the lower extremities. Body treatments help promote full confidence in one’s appearance.

What are the benefits of Skin Care?
Medical-Grade Skin Care
Dr. Edney can prescribe a customized skin care routine based on an individual patient’s skin type. These tailored treatments offer the most comprehensive approach to improving overall skin tone and texture. Specially trained staff can provide skin care tips for specific medical conditions and imperfections.
Through his years of experience practicing cosmetic medicine, Dr. Edney has seen consistently effective results with the use of the Obagi Condition & Enhance System. This dual system begins with prescription-strength skin care, which may be targeted to reduce severe acne marks and scars, signs of aging, and hyperpigmentation. It’s also a great renewal process for patients who are wondering how to keep skin young without surgery.
By creating smooth, even, and healthy skin, a patient’s facial features become the focus rather than their skin imperfections. Anti-aging skin care not only helps to reverse existing issues but can also improve the quality of the skin moving forward.
During Dr. Edney’s program, the Obagi skin care system is followed up with a medium-strength TCA (trichloroacetic acid) peel. For the best results, patients should use the Obagi system daily for 6 weeks prior to the Blue Peel® by Obagi.
By combining these skin care techniques, Dr. Edney is able to help patients reduce or eliminate:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Uneven pigmentation
- Sun damage&
- Age spots
Additionally, Dr. Edney can help patients better control their chronic skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea. Skin care is customized to meet each patient’s unique needs.

LATISSE® is an FDA-approved product that is designed to enhance eyelash growth. This prescription-only topical solution allows patients to grow lashes that are darker, thicker, and longer. Bolder eyelashes accentuate the eyes and are a universal symbol of youth and beauty.
Once a day, patients apply the product to the base of the lashes with a small brush, which gradually creates results that are visible in 2-4 months. Patients can maintain their results with ongoing daily applications.
Dr. Edney’s preferred chemical peel solution is the Blue Peel® by Obagi. This medium-depth TCA peel is an excellent option for addressing issues like fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, mouth, and throughout the face. The procedure helps to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation (dark spots and uneven dark areas) and acne scarring.
TCA peels are performed at our Omaha clinic and may require light oral sedation. Depending on the level of sedation, patients may be required to arrange for a ride back home for safety reasons. The peel application takes about an hour and is performed by a skincare specialist.
Facelift surgery can correct sagging tissues of the face, but it will not improve the condition of the skin. Blue Peel® by Obagi carefully removes the superficial skin layers to reveal a fresh, smooth complexion through chemical exfoliation. Some patients can benefit from undergoing a series of these peels.
The majority of patients experience little to no discomfort after undergoing a TCA peel, and a topical anesthetic can be applied to reduce discomfort. During the application process, patients may feel a slight burning sensation that lasts for about 10 minutes. The facial skin will appear pink or red in color, and the dead skin will begin to slough off. After 5-7 days, the peeling process should be complete and patients can begin to enjoy their results as new skin cells regenerate the area.
Another type of skin resurfacing procedure is dermabrasion, which is a mechanical exfoliation of the uppermost layers of skin, performed with controlled surgical sanding. A handheld tool is used to abrade the skin until an optimal depth has been reached to promote skin renewal and to resolve skin imperfections. Candidates for the procedure those who are less prone to scarring and have deeper defects of the skin.
Dermabrasion is performed under general anesthesia. Dermabrasion and chemical peels can be performed as standalone procedures, or in conjunction with other treatments.
After the dermabrasion procedure, patients might experience mild discomfort and swelling. Dr. Edney and his staff can provide and recommend products to enhance comfort during the healing process. As the skin repairs itself, a scab will form and disappear within 1-2 weeks. After healing, fresh, vibrant skin is revealed, making patients look younger. Patients should plan to have a ride home from the appointment due to the effects of the anesthesia and should plan to take 1-2 weeks off from work due to their appearance during the recovery.
Red, blue, and purple veins can be eliminated from the skin with an injectable therapy called sclerotherapy. A salt-based solution is injected into prominent veins, which effectively collapses the backed-up blood vessels and causes them to gradually disappear. Sclerotherapy is ideal for treating spider veins and varicose veins, though surgical removal of varicose veins may be necessary in more extensive cases.
Sclerotherapy can provide some health benefits, including pain management for the discomfort caused by enlarged veins, and by promoting healthy circulation to high-functioning veins. Sclerotherapy sessions generally take about 30 minutes to perform. Most patients should book two sessions to ensure maximum efficacy.
Which type of Skin Care is right for me?
The best way for men and women to learn about the best treatment options for their skin is to visit Dr. Edney at Aesthetic Surgical Images of Omaha, NE for a consultation. Dr. Edney will ask about the patient’s concerns and suggest a skin care routine, skin care products, or procedures to improve skin tone and texture.
Each facial treatment will be reviewed to ensure that the patient is aware of the risks and benefits of each option. In addition to non-surgical facial procedures, Dr. Edney offers various surgeries including dermabrasion, facelift, brow lift, and blepharoplasty, a procedure that permanently improves the look of the eye area.
Recovering from Skin Care procedures
Each procedure will have specific post-treatment recommendations. Generally, patients are advised to remain out of the sun, to avoid applying skin care products and cosmetics until the skin has healed, and to refrain from activities that will aggravate the condition or prolong recovery. Topical treatments may be provided during recovery and are especially beneficial with at-home skin care treatment plans or following a chemical peel or dermabrasion appointment.
Potential risks or side effects of treatments
Side effects are rare following most non-surgical and minimally invasive treatments, especially when these treatments are performed by a trained skin care specialist. During the initial consultation with Dr. Edney, each patient’s medical and surgical history will be reviewed to determine the safest approach for their skin care treatment plan. Below are some risks associated with the procedures performed at Aesthetic Surgical Images.
|Medical-Grade Skin Care||Allergic reaction|
