Understanding Vein Treatment
Spider veins are those small clusters of blue or purple veins that form just beneath the skin's surface, most commonly on the legs and face. Varicose veins are larger, bulging veins that may have a twisting or knotted appearance and can be quite uncomfortable. Both spider veins and varicose veins are dysfunctional veins into which blood has backed up and collected. Removing them does not impair circulation – on the contrary, it may help it by re-routing blood flow to healthy veins.
To treat spider veins, Aesthetic Surgical Images uses sclerotherapy, a safe and effective procedure that collapses the blood vessels, causing them to disappear. Some varicose veins may be treatable with sclerotherapy, but medium- and large-sized veins are typically removed surgically.

Your Vein Treatment Procedure
In Omaha, vein treatment using sclerotherapy is relatively painless and requires no anesthesia. During your in-office treatment, a tiny needle is used to inject the affected veins with a medication that causes them to collapse and fade away. Typically, treatment lasts less than an hour and most patients require two sessions to achieve optimal results. For more severe varicose veins of the legs, your physician may recommend ambulatory phlebectomy, an in-office procedure performed under local anesthesia to remove the veins. During this treatment, the veins are removed through punctures or incisions so small that they do not even require stitches.
After your treatment, you will experience some bruising, and you'll be instructed to wear support hose for several weeks to help your legs heal. It'll be important to walk frequently and avoid sitting or standing in one place for more than an hour in order to facilitate a speedy recovery. Some patients choose to have additional skin care treatments such as a chemical peel or dermabrasion at the same time to further improve the appearance of the skin.
Enjoying Your Results
After your last session, it takes about three weeks for full healing, during which time you will wear compression stockings. Many patients schedule their treatment in the cooler months so that they can wear long pants while they recover. In a relatively short amount of time, your legs will be noticeably clearer and more attractive.
