Understanding Skin Care
With any skin care regimen, the goal is to remove the top layers of the skin to reveal the fresher, smoother skin underneath. At Aesthetic Surgical Images, our patients enjoy consistently good results when they use the Obagi Condition & Enhance System, a prescription-strength skin care system, followed by a medium-strength TCA (trichloroacetic acid) Peel. In our Omaha practice, combining these skin care techniques is a highly effective way to reduce or eliminate:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Uneven pigmentation
- Sun damage
- Age spots
Based on your goals and skin tone, you may also be a good candidate for dermabrasion, which smoothes the skin's top layers through controlled surgical sanding. It is useful for fine lines but also effective at improving the appearance of scars. In your initial consultation, your plastic surgeon will perform a full examination to recommend the skin care solution that is best for you.
Medical Grade Products
LATISSE® is a revolutionary new product that is FDA approved for enhancing eyelash growth. This prescription-only topical solution allows you to grow longer, thicker, darker eyelashes that accentuate your eyes and your overall beauty. One daily application of LATISSE to the base of the lashes will produce results in approximately 8 to 16 weeks that last as long as you maintain treatment. The professionals at Aesthetic Surgical Images can help you decide if LATISSE should be a part of your skin care program.
Obagi Condition & Enhance®
The Obagi Condition & Enhance® System is designed to condition your skin, correct the effects of aging and sun damage, and achieve results that are greater than a procedure alone. It prepares, supports and maintains your skin. Obagi promotes the overall health of the skin by establishing a comprehensive anti-aging skincare regimen.
Your Skin Care Procedure
For optimal results, patients should use the Obagi skin care system daily for six weeks prior to the TCA Peel. At that point, you are ready for the peel, which is performed in the office and takes about an hour. Some patients prefer to take a mild sedative to help with the short, temporary burning sensation. Depending on the condition of your skin and your goals, you may need additional peels to achieve optimal results.
Dermabrasion is also performed in our surgical-suite under general anesthesia. During the procedure, your surgeon sands away the outermost layer of skin with a specialized precision tool until he/she reaches the optimal depth. Dermabrasion and chemical peels can be performed alone or in conjunction with other procedures such as a facelift.
At Aesthetic Surgical Images, your comfort and safety are our highest priorities. If, at any time, you have questions for concerns, please don't hesitate to call us.
Enjoying Your Results
Most people experience little or no discomfort following a TCA peel. Some burning is experienced for about 10 minutes during the peel. Initially, your face will appear red, and then the outermost layer of your skin will begin to flake and peel. After five to seven days, the peeling process should be complete. Immediately following dermabrasion, it is common to experience mild discomfort and swelling. As your skin heals, a scab will form and then disappear within one to two weeks. After healing, both skin care procedures reveal fresh, vibrant skin that helps patients look and feel younger.
