In addition to a busy practice in cosmetic surgery, Dr. Heieck is also the surgical director of the cleft palate team at Boys Town National Research Institute. Dr. Heieck and his wife, Sheila, are the proud parents of six children.

Education
Dr. John Heieck attended medical school and completed his residency in general surgery at the Creighton Medical Center. During two years in the United States Army, he conducted medical research primarily in the field of trauma. Dr. Heieck finished his training in plastic surgery at the Baylor Medical Center in Houston before completing an additional fellowship in hand surgery in Los Angeles. He then returned to Omaha in 1977 with his family and has been providing surgical care for patients of our region since that time.

Dr. Heieck is an assistant clinical professor of surgery at both Creighton University and at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He has written numerous articles in the medical literature regarding plastic surgery. He belongs to many medical societies including the American Society of Plastic Surgery, the Cleft Palate Association, the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Association of Hand Surgery, and the American Society of Outpatient Surgery.

 

What is the first job you ever held?
I mowed lawns and worked as a janitor at a local hospital when I was in 6th grade.

Do you have any pets?/Favorite childhood pet?
Presently, I have one dog, a Bijon. As a youth my family had 7 dogs, 2 Siamese Cats, a Half Moon Parrot, 750 parakeets and 1 turtle all at one time.

What do you like to do in your free time?/Hobbies?
I enjoy reading in my free time. I also love playing with my two grandchildren whenever they visit me or I visit them.

What is your favorite sports team?
Notre Dame!

What made you decide to be a cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon?
My decision to become a cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon was primarily influenced by treating severe facial trauma and my exposure to facial birth defect surgery while a general surgical resident at Creighton Medical Center.
