Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping)
Some patients may require as little as some reshaping of the tip of their nose. Many patients, however, require a combination of removing a hump from the nose, reshaping the tip, up-turning the tip, and narrowing the nose. These operations can be performed through incisions that are mostly internal. The small external portion of the incision at the base of the nose is usually not visible. Swelling and bruising may last up to ten days. Once the swelling begins to recede, the new shape of the nose becomes more apparent. After three weeks the amount of swelling left is minimal and not noticeable to others. It often takes four to six months though for all of the swelling to go away.
A plastic surgeon can and should customize a patient's nasal surgery to fit both the patient's face and individuality. The necessary changes in the shape and the size of a person's nose will be thoroughly discussed during your consultation. Computer imaging during your consultation is very helpful in comparing your perception of how you would like to look with the surgeon's idea of what can actually be accomplished surgically.
